Goudreau Museum
The Goudreau Museum of Mathematics in Art and Science opened in the Herricks Community Center in 1980. [Bernie Goudreau passed away in September 1985. His work was first displayed in Syosset HS in the late 1970's]. The Goudreau Museum grew from the collection of the remarkable mathematics teacher Bernhard Goudreau, and was formed in his memory. The collection of the museum focused on mathematical games and puzzles, and on polyhedra. Although the Goudreau Museum regrettably closed in 2006, its website is still on-line, and we hope to locate whoever controls it so that we may merge the information there and point those interested in the Goudreau to our new museum. We intend for the Exhibit Plans of the new museum to include a Goudreau Collection in honor both of Mr. Goudreau and the pioneering museum that bore his name.Another project of the Math Factory Working Group is to create from the memory of visitors and participants a Goudreau Catalog of exhibit descriptions and photographs.
